The ultimate lash duo by Jane Iredale: PureLash Conditioner + Longest Lash Mascara

A natural mascara that actually works is a extremely elusive item. Over time, I've found a few that I liked, but none ever had that "wow" factor, and many had major drawbacks like excessive flaking or irritating formulas. Well, I have finally found some products that I absolutely love — just as much, if not more that drugstore or high end mascaras. Jane Iredale totally delivers with their amazing PureLash Extender & Conditioner ($16) and Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara ($33).

Let's start off by talking about the primer, PureLash Extender & Conditioner. This stuff is awesome! Besides the fact that no other natural company even makes a lash primer, this one definitely compares to its non-natural counterparts.

It volumizes and adds length, without making lashes too clumpy. I notice a definite difference in the fullness in my lashes when I use it. Even with a mediocre mascara, this stuff makes your lashes look good, and helps prevent flaking. Another huge benefit is that this is actually a conditioner that is strengthens and help lashes grow. It contains nourishing ingredients like extracts of algae, vanilla and sweet almond and panthenol (yep, that provitamin often touted in Pantene products). Mascara ingredients lists almost always contain some undesirable ingredients, but this formula is exceptionally clean and doesn't even contain any unpleasant preservatives.

I found that there are two ways to apply it. Jane Iredale recommends applying mascara immediately after, which will help lashes stay separate and give a natural, feathery look. You can also break the rules a bit and let it dry on, which may make lashes look a little more clumpy, but definitely increases the volume. Either way, my lashes look good. This is a product that I will always, always have around.

Just the mascara.  Love it.
Primer and mascara. This is what it looks like when the primer has dried a bit, and then the the mascara has applied. If you don't let the primer dry, it maintains more of the featheriness from the first picture.
The Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara is amazing too. As the name suggests, it actually volumizes and lengthens. So often I find that mascaras can do one or the other, but this one does both. The other remarkable thing is that it keeps lashes looking so feathery and separated even as it builds volume. There's almost no clumping, and it gives your lashes a kind of fluttery effect. Even without the primer, there's very minimal flaking, if any at all. The longevity is great too; at the end of the day it looks almost as good as when it's freshly applied.

I love the oversized, natural bristle brush. That's my favorite kind, as I find it the best for building volume. And it has a tapered shape, so you can still get those hard to reach inner corner lashes. The squeeze tube packaging is quite unique. It doesn't allow you to get more product on the brush, because the stopper will pull it off. But you can get less if you want it by squeezing the brush as you pull it out. It could also be helpful if you are running low on product, you could move the brush around to get more formula on it.

At $33, this mascara is definitely on the more expensive side, but it does come with 50% more formula than most mascaras, so it will probably last longer. And once again, the ingredients list is exceptionally clean. It is free of lacquers, shellac and petroleum-based ingredients, and does not contain any questionable preservatives. It consists mainly of plant waxes and extracts, which are actually be good for your lashes.

So, in summary, these are some of the absolute best mascaras I have tried yet. If you are fed up with flakey, smudgy, irritating, or just kind of "blah" natural mascaras, give one or both of these a try!

  3. I've been eyeing the Jane Iredale PureLash™ Extender & Conditioner.

Can you do a post where you try it with the Physicians Formula Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara and maybe other natural/non-toxic mascaras?

    1. Yep, here's a picture
I took this morning with the conditioner and a very dried up Organic Wear Fake Out mascara, the only other one I had around. Alone that one could build volume but definitely not length like that.
      Hope that helps!
